Why is it important to learn another language?

At Golcar J,I&N School, we strive to provide our children with opportunities to become global citizens, deepening their interest and wonder in exploring their own place in the world. Children who are exposed early to other languages display more positive attitudes to the cultures associated with those languages. The experience of learning a language introduces them to the world in ways they might otherwise have not experienced. A high-quality languages education fosters pupils’ curiosity and deepens their understanding of the world. Language teaching provides the foundation for learning further languages, equipping pupils to study and work in other countries and promoting their individual cultural capital.

What does languages look like at Golcar JIN?

At Golcar J, I&N, we follow the iLanguages French scheme of work which meets the requirements of the National Curriculum 2014 for Languages at KS2. iLanguages French provides a good balance of spoken and written language and lays the foundations for further languages teaching at Key Stage 3.  It enables pupils to understand and communicate ideas, facts and feelings in speech and writing, focused on familiar and routine matters, using their knowledge of phonology, grammatical structures and vocabulary.

Why do we use ilanguages at Golcar JIN?

iLanguages French provides a clear sequential programme of study for our pupils through an engaging range of authentic French teaching and learning experiences which meets National Curriculum requirements. iLanguages French is fully resourced, structured and designed to enable our pupils to progress in four skill areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening. iLanguages French fosters pupils’ curiosity and deepens

their understanding of the world.
