 Home Learning During School Closure

Please note that we recognise doing large amounts of home learning can be a challenge, especially when you are trying to work at home and look after several children. There is no expectation for you to cover all of the work set. Please do what you deem as being appropriate for your child.

A message from your teachers:

13-6-2020

I can't believe we are nearly at the end of another school year already and what a strange year it has been.

I am really looking forward to seeing those of you who are joining us for the video calls this week.  I am not very good with technology so fingers crossed it will work.

Please can you make sure you complete the 'For my new teacher' sheet. Click on the transition tab and select your new class, then you can view your new teacher's video and the document is there to download further down the page. Make sure you upload it to Dojo when you've finished so your new teacher can see it.

I know I didn't know you for a long time but I would  like to say thank you for being such a wonderful class. You really were a pleasure to teach. I just wish our time together as a class hadn't come to such an abrupt end. I am looking forward to seeing you in September (if I don't see you on one of the video calls this week) but until then have a super summer break.

Take care and stay safe,

Mrs Beck

Message from Mrs Hinchliffe:
Some of you may have realised that I won't be here in September. I have been at Golcar for almost 20 years and now it is time for a change. I have absolutely loved teaching and working with you all, either in your classes or in the Hive. I have watched you grow into independent, happy young people.
Take care of yourselves, have fun and 'bee' happy!

6-7-2020

Hi octopus class,

This year seems to have flown by, I can't believe we've only got a couple of weeks left before the summer break. In school we are busy trying to get classrooms and shared areas cleared, ready for a good clean while everyone is away. Everywhere is starting to look very bare without your beautiful work on the walls.

I hope you're all still managing to do a little bit of home learning each day. If you can at least try and make sure you're practising your phonics and your reading then that would be great! Keep on uploading your super learning to our Class Dojo page, I love seeing all of your work.

I am really looking forward to seeing those of you who are able to join me for our group video meetings this week and the week after.

Take care and keep safe,

Mrs Beck

Learning for the Week Beginning 13th July:

Literacy and Maths

We will now be updating the learning and activities each day on our school website. Here are the resources and guidance for Friday's Literacy and Maths lessons which are also being taught in class. A PING message was sent out on Wednesday 10th June to explain how to upload work onto our new learning platform: CLASS DOJO. As this is a new program, just try and upload one piece of learning, of your choice, onto CLASS DOJO this week. Just to clarify, we will put the home-learning on our class page each day and you can upload the activities when you have completed them onto CLASS DOJO.

If you do not have access to a printer, you can either complete the word documents on a laptop/tablet and then upload them onto CLASS DOJO. You can also record the answers on a piece of paper or in your home-learning book, take a photo and upload it. You can also write a message to your teacher using the journal on CLASS DOJO just to explain what you have been doing if you are unable to print any of the activities. I must say thank you to all of those children who have already uploaded their learning onto Class Dojo; it has been an absolute pleasure reading and looking at it all. Keep sending it in everyone, and most importantly, keep enjoying it!

Ongoing activities to be done throughout your time away from school:

  • Daily reading - explore a range of books and authors. Use the books you have at home and take a look at the Oxford Owl website for free books with activities similar to the ones we use in school. The books are leveled like the books that are sent home.
  • Parents can support at home by reading with their child as much as possible. Please ask your child about the book they have read. example of questions

    Why was .......... feeling .......?

    Why did ............happen?

Who is your favourite character?    why?

What do you think will happen next in the story?

    Can you retell the story?

  • Times Tables - try and spend at least 15 minutes each day practising

counting in 2s, 5s, 10s. Encourage your children to count objects around their home for instance 6 forks add 5 forks would make ?  15 pens take away 7 pens would equals ?
