Robins - Nursery
It is now time to think about transition to your new class . On this website, you can find lots of information about your new class, your new teachers and what your new classroom will look like.
Click the link below and that will take you to the transition video.
Please remember that we understand what a difficult time this is for everyone and how everyone's home situation is so very different. With that in mind, please only complete what you feel your family are able to. Also, don't worry if you don't have the resources to carry any of these activities out. We would much rather child come back from this feeling safe and nurtured and not 'over worked' and stressed. It's so important to take care of your family and their well being. Anything you are doing with your child, we would love to see it uploaded on Early Essence.
Ongoing activities – The stories we are looking at this week are written by Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter. They are called ‘The Dinosaur that Pooped a Planet’ and ‘The Dinosaur that Pooped the Past’. You can listen to them on Youtube here;
What do you know about dinosaurs? How do you think they move? What sounds do you think they make? With the help of a grown up see if you can find out about different types of dinosaurs using books or the internet, can you describe what they look like? Maybe you could draw your own dinosaur and talk about what it would be like. Would it be able to fly, would it be big and scary or little and friendly?
Literacy – Danny and the dinosaur go into space in quite a hurry and they forget to take anything with them! If you were going into space, what would you like to bring with you? Talk to a grown up about what kind of thing you would like to take if you went to space. Make a list of all the things you think astronauts might need on a space mission. Perhaps you could ask a grown up to show you some pictures or videos of what real astronauts take on their rockets.
Phonics – The books we are reading have something very special about them, can you notice anything? Whilst you are reading, have a listen to the sounds at the end of all the sentences. Can you hear anything? Have you noticed that all the words are rhyming words? Think about rhyme and the sounds that rhyme with each other. What other rhyming words can you think of?
You could play a game of rhyming pairs with your grown up or sibling (if you have one). Ask your grown up to print out or write down the words on the link below and see if you can match the words that rhyme.
Maths – Danny and the Dinosaur need a rocket to get up into space. See if you can make your own rocket using things you have around the house (remember to get permission first!). Once you have your rocket, you will need to count before you launch. See how many numbers you can count before mission control launch your rocket!
The Dinosaur eats lots of silly things in both books. Can you find five or even ten silly things he might eat from around your house? Collect them and put them in a pile for him, making sure you count them as you go.
Other areas of learning – You could have a go at making your own dinosaur painting using your handprint. It’s really simple and easy to do, the video below shows you how to do it and all you need is a bit of paint, a paintbrush and your hand!
Why not have a go at this cosmic kids yoga video which is all about Tiny the T-Rex!
We know a lot about dinosaurs because of fossils that have been found, why not try this easy activity to make your own salt dough dinosaur fossils.
PHSE – This week, we would like you to talk to you grown up about wishes. The children in school are going to be thinking about the things they are wishing for next year at school. Have a think about what you would wish for. It doesn’t matter if you are moving up to reception or staying in Robins, we can all have a special wish for what we would like to do in our next year of school.
