A note about home learning during the school closures

Please note that we recognise doing large amounts of home learning can be a challenge, especially when you are trying to work at home and look after several children. There is no expectation for you to cover all of the work set. Please do what you deem as being appropriate for your child.

A message from your teachers:

Hello Kingfishers

I can't quite believe that this is the last teacher message of the school year. What an honour it is to have been your teachers and watch you grow, learn and begin your school journey. Each and every single one of you has made us proud beyond belief and brought so many smiles to our faces. I hope you will always remember everything you achieved when you were just 4 and 5- if you could do this then you can do anything. We will always believe in you! I have a few happy tears now but I look forward to seeing you all when we come back to school- I can't wait to hear what you have been up to over the summer holidays.

It has also been so lovely to speak to some of you on our video meetings- it was so nice to see your faces again. I really can't believe how grown up you all look. You have definitely all grown since September!

As it is the last week of term Kerry Kingfisher has come home to my house so he isn't lonely in school over the holidays. click here to see some pictures of Kerry with Miss Mitchell

Sending you the biggest hug through the computer!

Stay safe and take care

Love Miss Mitchell and Mrs Wilson x

 Transition Information

It is now time to think about transition to your new class in September. On this website, you can find lots of information about your new class, your new teachers and what your new classroom will look like. There is also a section with some ideas for you to send in to early essence for your new teacher to see to help them get to know you over the summer.

Click the link below and that will take you to the school transition page where you will then need to select the class you will be joining in September.

Ongoing activities to be done throughout your time away from school:

Daily reading - explore a range of books and authors. Use the books you have at home and take a look at the Oxford Owl website for free books with activities similar to the ones we use in school. The books are levelled like the books that are sent home. Take a look at our reading challenge sheet. This has a list of reading skills that your child can work on whilst sharing and reading books.

Word Boxes – continue with word boxes. Try to read word boxes each day and once your child is confident move them on to the next word box.

Word boxes 1 to 50- click to download

Counting – practise rote counting forwards and backwards within 0 – 20, then 0-100. This can be at any time of the day and only has to be for a couple of minutes.

Literacy and topic

The Literacy activities this week will be based around the 'Dinosaur poop' series to tie in with the White Rose Maths Learning.

You can watch the stories from this series on youtube here:

You can find a list of daily literacy tasks for the book here:

Don't forget, our maths learning is now a week behind so please look at the work dated 6th July.

Please use the daily lessons available on the White Rose Maths website linked below. Week 11 is all about The Dinosaur that Pooped a Planet.

In school, the children are also doing lots of work on their recognition of numbers from 0 to 20. There are lots of ways you can do this at home as either a starter before you work on the white rose activities, or as a stand alone session if that works better for you. Remember, any counting is good. You could try counting the steps it takes you to get to a certain tree on a walk or picking out a number and doing that amount of bounces on a trampoline. Counting and number recognition can be done in lots of different ways and I am excited to see you finding and recognising numbers at home.

Click the link below to find a list of daily online games based around number recognition that you can do as a starter to get your mind working.

Topic and Further Learning Opportunities

Linking in with our book for the week, here are some other ideas for different activities you could do at home.

I hope you all enjoyed learning your letter last week. I saw some lovely work being uploaded onto early essence. This week, we are adding a new sound, whilst also reminding ourselves of the sound from last week. Click the link below to find the sound for this week along with some ideas to help you with your learning.

We have also put together some more tricky phonics challenges for you. These can be done alongside the letter of the week or, if you feel ready, you can work on just the extra challenges.

This week, we would like you to start thinking about what you would like to say to your new teacher. There is a transition page on the school website and you can find directions to that at the top of this page.

As well as this, the children in school are reading the story of The Cautious Caterpillar which you can find on youtube here

When you are reading this story, have a think about how Cody feels at the beginning of the story. Do you recognise any of these feelings? Perhaps you are feeling the same way about not being a kingfisher anymore. Have a think about any of the things you may feel worried about and chat with your grown up about them. I’m sure that once you start to think about talking to your new teacher and having fun with your new class, you will feel just the same as Cody did when he realised that some change is good.

Weekly Spellings

As we have now come to the last week in school before the holidays, we would like you to focus on making sure you are confident with all your phase 3 high frequency words. There is a full list of these below. Have a look and see which ones you found tricky and have another go at them. Don't forget, just because school is finishing for the summer, that doesn't mean you have to stop your learning. Spellings are important all the time and can be practised easily over the summer too.
